Aloo Posto ( Potato cooked with poppy seeds ) Bengali cuisine

Aloo Posto is a dish cooked in poppy seeds paste. In bengali posto means poppy seeds and this dish is being served as side dish with Rice and daal and believe me it is very tasty specially the taste of poppy seeds ..
so lets get started ...

Ingredients :-

  1. Potatoes - 4 Nos ( Cut into medium size pieces)
  2. Poppy Seeds - 50 gm
  3. Green chili -1
  4. Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
  5. Red chili powder -1/2 tsp
  6. Sugar -2 tsp
  7. Nigella Seeds-1/2 tsp
  8. Red dry chili- 1 
  9. Mustard Oil -1&1/2 tsp 
  10. Water - 1/4 cup ( for making Paste)
  11. Salt - to taste
How to cook-
  • Wash and peel the potatoes and cut into medium size pieces
  • In a grinder add Poppy seeds,Turmeric powder,Red chili powder,Salt,Sugar, Green Chili and add water to it and make a fine paste.
  • Heat the mustard oil in pan and once the oil is hot enough add nigella seeds and let them spluter  and then add dry red chili broken into half.
  • Now pour the paste over it and Stir the paste for 2 to 3 minutes and add Potatoes to it and add little water to it and let it cook.
  • cover the pan and simmer the gas and keep on checking in between and once the potatoes are done dry the water keep the gas on full flame and dry the water excess water completely. .
  • Your Aloo posto is ready to serve
  • Taste good with steamed rice and daal and also can be served with puri or chapati.
